Wherever I go, whoever I met, people always give
me a very shocking and epic facial expression when they hear me saying ' I am a
Weightlifter' in any part of a conversation. First, they will stare at my body structure from top to bottom
and then comes the obvious question with some absurd feeling 'In which weight
category did you play’? Under 56 Kg my reply. They will again give a look
to my figure :P
So, you can believe me 'I am a weightlifter' and
it gives me immense pleasure, when I say this line to anyone. Weightlifting gave me name,
fame, love and above all 'a proud feeling'. Whenever I evoke
any moment of this glorious life I had, I can not found a single moment of regret.
Weightlifting gave me memories, which I will cherish lifelong. Huuh, you might
be giggling 'esa kiya kya he iss bande ne'.
Well, I didn't play a single game at national's.
It’s just the nature of this game made me so helpless and I couldn't do a thing
accept loving it wholeheartedly. Lifting is all about challenging yourselves daily to go more & more heavier. Every time you fail a lift, either the weight fall on
you or you fall on it. Terrifying, but makes you stronger bit by bit. Before you think I am a some kind of bugger wanted
to twist my body parts. Well, I am a skilled lifter with decent technique and knowledge about
this game. Inter-IIT Gold medalist, bronze in Assam state level and holds two
records of Inter-IIT sports meet.
There is a weird saying about lifting 'Most games require one ball, while Weightlifters need two' and why not? First you sweat hard enough at least 3 hours on daily basis, then you will sleep empty stomach, if out of body weight category. Even after doing all this, you have only 6 lifts barely 20 sec per lift to put up a show and if unlucky you may loose because of body weight too. But, there is nothing odd, you are a lifter and it is expected of you.
From the way I explained Weightlifting, you might had a thought by now 'what made me love this game'. Its the nature of this game. I know your response 'Uufff again this same bullshit of nature'. So the actual reasons made me fall in love with Weightlifting are: If you love to be challenged by your own ego all the time, want to taste failure on regular basis, want to check whether you can move your ass out of the barbell fallen on you or not. Above all, if you want to live a regret free life, you are welcome to lifting, Weightlifting. But, do check that you have got the required number of balls before committing to become a lifter.
As it says 'the price of victory is high but so are the rewards'. This game will not disappoint you ever. It will always remind you 'either you can be below the barbell or on the top of this world'. I was so lucky to be rescued by my beloved team mates whenever I was trapped below the barbell I worshiped. Probably that is another hilarious record I am holding unofficially across IIT's. I am so thankful to each and everyone who accompanied me in all these moments of madness.
The moments of pride
